Great Lakes Publishing Launches LongWeekends Magazine

Posted on April 1, 2002

Great Lakes Publishing announced the launch of LongWeekends magazine. A regional travel publication, LongWeekends has a circulation base of 250,000 in eight states in and around the Great Lakes region -- Western New York, Western Pennsylvania, West Virginia, Ohio, Kentucky, Indiana, Illinois and Michigan.

LongWeekends' mission is to deliver travel stories about destinations within a one-day drive for most of its readers. Content will focus intriguing travel ideas, privately owned inns and B&Bs, and events in its eight-state coverage area.

The cover story, "Eight Great Breaks," features an itinerary for a weekend-long trip to a destination in each of the eight coverage states. For this article, editors discovered a Roman-style bath visited by George Washington that is still operating in a West Virginia state park. They also report on a B&B castle in Ohio recently built, brick-by-brick, by a fairy- tale-book illustrator, and a white-water rafting weekend in Pennsylvania that includes a side trip to Frank Lloyd Wright's Fallingwater.

For readers seeking quick day trips, LongWeekends provides more than 12 pages of briefs on destinations and events in each state. Additionally, the premier issue of LongWeekends features a special section, Travel Ohio, devoted to travel and tourism in the Buckeye State. The section also covers Ohio's state parks -- there are more than 70 -- and offers tips on shopping destinations in the state and new attractions at Ohio's three major amusement parks.

In addition to LongWeekends magazine, Great Lakes Publishing also publishes city and regional magazines, including Ohio Magazine, Cleveland Magazine, Inside Business Magazine, and Ohio Business Magazine.
