Nelson Announces Acquisition of Arnold Publishing

Nelson, part of The Thomson Corporation and a division of Thomson Canada Limited, announced the acquisition of Arnold Publishing, an Alberta-based publisher that develops textbooks and learning resources for social studies courses. Nelson intends to continue a business relationship with Phyllis Arnold, President of Arnold Publishing, further developing the innovative pedagogy she has included in her books.

"The Arnold acquisition will greatly strengthen Nelson's position in history and geography, substantially complementing our already strong offerings at the elementary school level," said George W. Bergquist, President of Nelson. "We are very excited about the opportunity this acquisition provides to continue to grow our offerings in social studies."

Nelso reported that the acquisition will result in increased offerings for both Nelson and Arnold customers. The company also stated that the acquisition provides authors of both companies with a larger sales and marketing organization. The closing date for the acquisition was March 21.

"I would like to thank the many teachers who have supported our publishing efforts over the past 35 years," said Phyllis Arnold, president of Arnold Publishing. "Along with my authors and production team, I am excited about working with Nelson to produce titles for the upcoming Alberta Social Studies curriculum."
