Richard Paul Russo Wins Philip K. Dick Award

Ship of Fools (Ace Books) by Richard Paul Russo has won the Philip K. Dick Award for 2001. Divine Intervention by Ken Wharton (Ace Books) was given a special citation. The awards were announced on March 30, 2002 at Norwescon 25 at the Doubletree Seattle Airport Hotel, SeaTac, Washington. The 2001 judges were Constance Ash, Greg Beatty (chair), Jan Lars Jensen, Louise Marley, and Scott Westerfeld.

The Philip K. Dick Award is given to a distinguished original science fiction paperback published for the first time during the award year in the U.S.A. The award is sponsored by the Philadelphia Science Fiction Society and the award ceremony is sponsored by the NorthWest Science Fiction Society. The awards were founded by Thomas M. Disch, who was inspired to do so at the Norwescon following Philip K. Dick's death at the age of 53 in 1982.
