Mr. Shell will oversee operations of the Company and will be based at the corporate headquarters in Pasadena, California. Jeff will report directly to Henry C. Yuen, Chairman and CEO. Prior to joining Gemstar-TV Guide, Mr. Shell served as President and Chief Executive Officer of Fox Cable Networks Group from April 2000. · Red Herring Communications, Inc., the parent company of Red Herring magazine, has named Chris Dobbrow as its Chief Executive Officer. Dobbrow succeeds Hilary Schneider who is leaving later this month for a senior management position at the Knight Ridder Inc. Dobbrow will join the company on April 29. A veteran media industry executive, Mr. Dobbrow brings more than 20 years of experience to his new role. He served most recently as the Senior Vice-President at RealNames Corporation. Prior to joining RealNames, Mr. Dobbrow worked for Ziff-Davis and was co-founder and CEO of SmartPlanet, now the technology training channel of CNET Networks. · Joseph G. NeCastro, who has been a financial manager in the media and communications industry for 20 years, has been named senior vice president and chief financial officer for The E. W. Scripps Company, effective May 3. NeCastro, 45, comes to Scripps from Penton Media Inc. in Cleveland, where he has been chief financial officer since 1998. NeCastro succeeds Daniel J. Castellini, who retired March 31 after 31 years with Scripps. · Penton Media is undertaking a nationwide search for a new chief financial officer after Joseph G. NeCastro left to become senior vice president and cfo for the E.W. Scripps Company (see above). Preston Vice, currently senior vice president and corporate secretary, will serve as interim chief financial officer until NeCastro's successor is named. Vice, 53, served as Penton's senior vice president of finance from 1982 until 1998 when NeCastro joined the Company. · Scholastic Library Publishing, a division of Scholastic Inc., a children's publishing and media company, announced the appointment of Kate Nunn as editor-in-chief of the Grolier nonfiction imprints, Children's Press and Franklin Watts for the school, library and trade markets. Ms. Nunn's most recent post was editorial director of Benchmark Books, an imprint of Marshall Cavendish, where she spent the past seven years growing their school and library business. Reporting to Ms. Nunn will be Dina Rubin managing editor of Children's Press and Franklin Watts, Caroline Anderson, director of photo research, as well as their staffs. Ms. Nunn will report to Phil Friedman, Vice President and Publisher, Scholastic Library Publishing division. · Craig A. Moon has been named executive vice president of the Newspaper Division, it was announced by Gannett Co., Inc. He formerly was president and publisher of The Tennessean in Nashville and president of the Piedmont Newspaper Group. · Marv Danielski has been named vice president, marketing and creative services, for Hearst-Argyle Television, Inc. The appointment, effective immediately, was announced by David J. Barrett, president and chief executive officer of Hearst-Argyle Television, Inc. Danielski succeeds Frank Biancuzzo, who recently was named president and general manager of WISN-TV, the Company's ABC affiliate in Milwaukee. · Knight Ridder announced the appointment of Hilary A. Schneider as president and chief executive officer of Knight Ridder Digital and a vice president of Knight Ridder, effective April 29. Schneider is currently chief executive officer of Red Herring Communications in San Francisco. She will have responsibility for Knight Ridder's online activities, which include more than 58 websites. She also will oversee Knight Ridder's investments in CareerBuilder and Classified Ventures. · Entertainment Publications, a marketer of coupon books, discounts and merchant promotions, announced the appointment of Steven Loos to the newly created position of chief information officer (CIO). Loos will lead Entertainment's information technology strategy and drive the company's simplification and automation initiatives. He will be based at Entertainment's Troy, Mich. headquarters, and report to Alan Bittker, president and chief executive officer. Digital Publishing · Books24x7, a subsidiary of SkillSoft Corp. and a developer of online referenceware libraries for IT and business professionals, announced that its ITPro and Business Pro libraries now exceed 2,000 unabridged titles from more than 80 publishers. Books24x7 adds to its libraries approximately 20 to 30 titles each week. The company's search technology gives subscribers the ability to perform online searches of its Referenceware -- or of specific books. Content Deals · Glencoe/McGraw-Hill, an educational publisher for grades 6-12, has announced a partnership with USA Today Education. Under the terms of the agreement, USA Today Education will provide content for several of Glencoe/McGraw-Hill's mathematics textbooks, including Glencoe Pre-Algebra (Grades 7-9), Glencoe Algebra 1 (Grades 8-10), and Glencoe Algebra 2 (Grades 10-12), all with 2003 copyrights. USA Today Snapshots, the newspaper's signature graphics, and articles from USA Today's print edition will appear as unit openers in the Student Edition, providing students with a real world context for the mathematics concepts and principles covered within the chapters. Launches and Redesigns · IDG.net, a network of technology-specific sites around the world, announced the launch of CIO Briefcase, a new online resource providing chief information officers access to targeted news and information. CIO Briefcase, the result of a collaboration with Hewlett-Packard Company (HP), enables HP to reach thousands of technology professionals with customized information on infrastructure technology issues and solutions. · Sega.com, Inc., a network entertainment company, announced the launch of Sega Mobile, a new division of Sega.com dedicated to bringing Sega gaming to cellular phone and PDA users in North America. Sega Mobile is tapping into Sega's extensive content library launching titles such as Pengo, Flicky, Puyo Puyo, and Monaco GP. Beginning this summer, Sega Mobile will be bringing the title Monkey Ball to wireless devices nationwide. Sega Mobile will round out the launch repertoire of games by publishing new puzzle, sports and entertainment titles. Sega Mobile is led up by Shiratsuchi, a 23-year veteran of the IT industry. · Aggressive Bid, Inc., located in Long Island, N.Y. has launched its Internet-based publication -- Aggressive Bid: a groundbreaking approach to finance and entertainment publishing. Miscellaneous · The Online Publishers Association (OPA) announced that Scripps Networks is its newest member, expanding its current membership to 20 media companies. Ron Feinbaum, vice president and general manager of Scripps Networks' online division, will serve on the OPA Board. Scripps Networks is comprised of HGTV (Home & Garden Television), Food Network, DIY--Do It Yourself Network and Fine Living.
