The announcement was made by Martin Nisenholtz, chief executive officer of New York Times Digital, to whom he will report. Mr. Apcar, 49, succeeds Bernard Gwertzman, 67, who announced plans to retire after seven years as editor of NYTimes.com and over 27 years of editorial roles with The New York Times. Mr. Apcar will begin his new responsibilities on June 10; his replacement has not been named at this time. Bonnie Fuller, editor-in-chief of Wenner Media's Us, has created three new senior editorial positions and filled them with seasoned magazine professionals. As deputy editor of Us, Joseph Steuer, 37 will be responsible for editing key feature stories. Most recently, Steuer was the founding editor-in-chief of Gotham, and has also edited and reported for Interview, The Hollywood Reporter, The New York Post's "Page Six," Women's Wear Daily and W. Kelli Delaney, 32, fashion director, will be responsible for three new fashion columns in Us, Buzz Buys, Us Must and Fashion Trend. Delaney has ten years' experience at Conde Nast, having held fashion positions at Glamour for two years and Allure for eight years. Veronica Hinman, 32, beauty director, will oversee, develop and expand the beauty presence within the pages of Us. Hinman comes to Us from Glamour. AOL Time Warner Inc. announced the appointment of Michael Lynton as President, International and Executive Vice President of AOL Time Warner. Mr. Lynton, 42, currently serves as President of AOL International, where he is responsible for expanding AOL's international brand presence and industry-leading position. Mr. Lynton will work closely with the other members of AOL Time Warner's senior management team and operating divisions to further develop the Company's international growth strategy. Mr. Lynton, who joined America Online in 1999, will also continue to lead the AOL International organization and its operations in Asia, Latin America and Europe. He will report to Robert Pittman, COO-elect of AOL Time Warner. Primedia Business-to-Business announced that John McManus has been named Editorial Director of its Media Central division, effective immediately. Since January, McManus has been serving in the dual role of Media Central's Chief Content Officer and as Chief Operating Officer and Editorial Director of Media Central's Simba Information unit. McManus has been with Primedia Business-to-Business for 5 years, serving in various senior editorial and publishing roles, including being Associate Publisher and Editorial Director of American Demographics. The principal editors and senior analysts of American Demographics, Cable World, Circulation Management, Folio, Kagan World Media, Media Buyers' Daily, Simba and their affiliated websites will report to McManus. He will, in turn, report to Gerard Griffin, President and Chief Operating Officer of Media Central. Knight Ridder announced that Arden D. Dickey has been named vice president/circulation and regional call centers for Knight Ridder. Dickey, 49, joined The Miami Herald in 1971, one month after graduating from high school. He held a variety of circulation positions including: district manager, zone manager, state circulation manager, assistant home delivery manager, director of circulation/distribution and director of circulation/marketing. He served as vice president/circulation at The Miami Herald Publishing Co. from 1992 to 1996 and again from 1998 to 1999. In 1997, he served on the Knight Ridder corporate staff as director of circulation. Cygnus Publishing, a division of Cygnus Business Media, announced that publishing veteran Len Yencharis has joined Advanced Imaging (AI) magazine as its editor-in-chief. AI, the magazine for imaging professionals, recently launched Advanced Imaging Europe (AIE). Mr. Yencharis will also serve as editor-in-chief for AIE. Mr. Yencharis was most recently founder and proprietor of the New York- based Yencharis Consulting Group. New management announcements and changes were made by Boston Globe Publisher Richard H. Gilman. George A. Barrios has joined The Boston Globe as Chief Financial Officer and Senior Vice President. New CFO Barrios, who will report directly to Globe President Richard J. Daniels, joins the Globe from high-tech industry leader Netsilicon, Inc. where he served as Executive Vice President. Thirty-year Globe veteran Stephen T. Cahow will shift from his current role of Vice President of Circulation to become the new Vice President of Production, replacing Michael Ide who retired from the newspaper earlier this month. Chris Mayer, another long-time Globe employee, has been promoted to Vice President Circulation Sales from Executive Director of Single Copy Sales and Operations. And rounding out the new management appointments will be new hire Susan Hunt Stevens, who will assume the position of Vice President Circulation Marketing. Stevens most recently served as President of Abridge, Inc., an enterprise software firm she co-founded in 1999. Source Interlink Companies, a provider of magazine information and sales data, announced it has promoted three employees to its corporate management team. Rusty Fulbright has been named Vice President, Director of Purchasing. He previously served as a consultant to the company. Fulbright is presently located in the company's Jacksonville offices and will be relocating to the company's new worldwide headquarters in Bonita Springs, Florida in August. The company also announced that Vic Livoti has been promoted to Senior Vice President, Manufacturing. Livoti has been with the company for more than 20 years and was previously Vice President of Operations in the Brooklyn facility. His responsibilities include company-wide supervision of Source's manufacturing facilities from design through the shipping and delivery of finished product. In addition, the company promoted Rich Rovinsky to Assistant Vice President of Purchasing. Rovinsky formerly served as Source Interlink's Purchasing Manager at the Brand Manufacturing facility in Brooklyn, NY. Rainbow Media Holdings, Inc. has announced that Sommer Hixson, 36, has been appointed Mag Rack's director of public relations. Mag Rack is Rainbow Media's video-on-demand (VOD) service delivering special interest programming. In her new role as director of public relations, Hixson will oversee all aspects of Mag Rack's media relations activity and will report to Beth Sanford, vice president of marketing for Mag Rack. Ms. Hixson was formerly responsible for consumer public relations efforts with Rainbow Media's Bravo Networks. Rainbow Media's MuchMusic USA, a viewer-driven all music network, announced the appointment of Mary Corigliano as Vice President of Marketing. Corigliano, who has more than 10 years of marketing experience honed at Viacom's MTV and most recently Zilo Networks, will be responsible for building and executing the network's marketing strategy and furthering the reach of its viewer-driven programming brand. She will report directly to MuchMusic USA President Marc Juris. Lawrence M. Riley has been named vice president/circulation at the Pioneer Press. Riley, circulation director at the Sarasota (Fla.) Herald-Tribune since February 2000, achieved gains on the paper's three most recent Publisher's Statement measures and its 2001 circulation audit. His move to the Twin Cities newspaper market is effective May 28. Digital Publishing Lightbulb Press has launched Lightbulb Learning, a new division targeted toward helping corporate trainers, educators, and financial services companies deliver financial content online. Lightbulb's complete offering includes options to develop elearning modules from concept to implementation or to tailor existing products for websites or Intranets. The division launch coincides with the completion of SIA Investor, an investor education learning website developed by Lightbulb Press with the Securities Industry Association. Previously, Lightbulb developed 2020green.com, a financial literacy course for high school students, for ING/Aetna Financial Services. Content Deals SEGA Sports, a sports video gaming brand, announced a multi-year deal between SEGA of America, Inc. and ESPN, Inc. Wanadoo and Strategy First are delighted to announce their publishing deal, in which the two companies will jointly publish a range of six video games in North America by the end of the year. After their recent agreement to co-publish the strategy game Celtic Kings in North America, Wanadoo and Strategy First have now extended their partnership in order to open the door for Wanadoo to publish part of its line-up in North America for the first time, while simultaneously allowing Strategy First to expand its product line into the console market. THQ Inc. announced a multi-property publishing agreement with interactive entertainment publisher Disney Interactive and Pixar Animation Studios, granting THQ exclusive interactive rights to the next three Disney/Pixar animated feature films, Finding Nemo, The Incredibles, and Cars. The worldwide deal extends through 2008 and includes all game systems manufactured by Sony, Nintendo and Microsoft as well as PC/MAC. Fine Living, a multi-platform brand from Scripps Networks, is partnering with The Wall Street Journal on a one-hour television special. The yet-to-be-titled program will be inspired by editorial content found in The Journal's Friday section "Weekend Journal." Yahoo! Inc. and BrainPOP has announced the launch of a new Science Movies section on Yahooligans!, Yahoo!’s Web guide for kids ages 7 to 12. In a new section entitled BrainPOP Science Movies, Yahooligans! will feature a selection of 12 BrainPOP animated movies each month that teach kids about topics that include the Internet, insects, electricity, and cell phones. Launches and Redesigns Mag Rack, Rainbow Media's video-on-demand (VOD) service, announced the debut of two new VOD niche magazines -- Yoga Retreat and Fame and Faith. McGraw-Hill Construction unveiled the "new" McGraw-Hill Construction at the American Institute of Architects (AIA) 2002 Annual Convention and Expo in Charlotte, North Carolina. The newly branded group of construction information companies and publications - Dodge, Sweets, Architectural Record, Engineering News-Record, Regional Publications and construction.com - was launched through an integrated program on and off the trade show floor. Primedia's National Real Estate Investor, a source of information for commercial real estate professionals, has introduced its updated design and streamlined format. The change begins with the logo and front cover and is evident throughout the magazine in the form of expanded in-depth articles, news and trends and the inclusion of more charts, tables and text boxes. National Real Estate Investor will also feature demographic data from its Primedia sister publication, American Demographics. The redesigned version of National Real Estate Investor debuts with its May issue. Snowball -- home to IGN.com, an information and entertainment destination for gamers -- announced that its stockholders have approved an amendment to the company's certificate of incorporation to change the company's name from Snowball.com, Inc. to IGN Entertainment, Inc. The name change will become effective May 10, 2002, at which time the company's common stock will begin trading under the Nasdaq symbol "IGNX." Information Today, Inc. (ITI) announced that more than 30,000 of the subscribers to Knowledge Management magazine, which ceased publication in the fall, will now be receiving KMWorld magazine, a resource for professionals who are creating and managing the knowledge-based enterprise. PAX TV, a provider of family programming, announced plans to pick-up full orders on four of the network's signature series: Doc, starring recording artist Billy Ray Cyrus in his third season as a small town doctor who aims to make a difference in New York City; It's A Miracle, which remains one of PAX's most important original series as it begins season five; all-new episodes of Candid Camera, hosted by Peter Funt (son of Allen) and Dina Eastwood; and Miracle Pets, showcasing the inspiring bonds between humans and their pets. With box-office receipts totaling $114,844,116 Spider-Man has become the highest grossing debut in motion picture history, it was announced by Jeff Blake, President of Worldwide Marketing and Distribution for Columbia TriStar Motion Picture Group. The studio also announced that it will begin production on Spider-Man 2 early next year, and will release the sequel nationwide on May 7, 2004. Torstar Corporation announced that the Board of Directors has approved a new logo for the company, updating a corporate identity that has served the company well for two decades. Torstar Corporation is a media company listed on the Toronto Stock Exchange (TS.B). Its businesses include daily newspapers led by The Toronto Star, Canada's largest daily newspaper; Metroland Printing, Publishing & Distributing, publishers of approximately 68 community newspapers in Southern Ontario; and Harlequin Enterprises, a publisher of women's fiction. Emmy-winning Television Producer, Al Burton, whose credits include the Comedy Central Hit Win Ben Stein's Money (already picked up for its sixth and seventh season), Mary Hartman, Square Pegs, and Charles In Charge, announced a strategic alliance with GamePro magazine designed to bring the action and excitement of today's new video games to television audiences. Al Burton Productions and GamePro will jointly produce a mainstream entertainment show on major TV networks and cable focusing on the video game industry. The show will highlight the hottest video games and console systems with editorial commentary and game ratings from GamePro's editorial experts. 4Kids Entertainment, Inc. and Mirage Licensing, Inc., the holder of the rights to Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, announced that 4Kids will produce twenty-six (26) episodes of a new animated Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles television series. The new Ninja Turtles series is scheduled to premiere in the first quarter of 2003 on the Fox Saturday Morning Block programmed by 4Kids. In addition to producing the television series, 4Kids will also serve as the exclusive merchandise licensing agent for the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles property worldwide.
