Copyright Clearance Center Unveils Rightslink Permissions

The Copyright Clearance Center (CCC), a licenser of text reproduction rights, has announced Rightslink Permissions, the newest addition to CCC's Rightslink suite of services. Rightslink Permissions lets online content providers instantly license reuse of their copyrighted content, directly from their websites.

The CCC says that Rightslink Permissions can be implemented on a publisher's website in as few as two business days. Accoring to the CCC, one simply inserts a CD into a computer and follows a series of prompts to enter publication information, to select the types of use to be licensed, and to assign pricing, terms and conditions.

Rightslink Permissions lets publishers license the reuse of content in a variety of formats including email, Internet postings or republication in a book or magazine. For permission to reuse the publisher's online content, the end-user clicks on a link to complete a licensing process. Rightslink Permissions handles the ecommerce transaction, including billing, account management and distribution of royalties. Customers can pay online or request an invoice.

"Online content providers are looking for revenue results sooner rather than later," said Bob Weiner, CCC's vice president, corporate sales and rightsholder relations. "With Rightslink Permissions, they can begin licensing content and generating new revenues practically overnight."

CCC announced separately that VNU eMedia and The Christian Science Monitor have already selected Rightslink Permissions as their digital rights management solution. VNU eMedia has gone live with the service on editorandpublisher.com and plans additional implementations on many of their other publications. The Christian Science Monitor plans to go live on csmonitor.com shortly.
