U.S. Banker and Bank Technology News will continue to be published as independent titles serving their respective senior management and technology decision-maker constituencies. In her new position, Sraeel will oversee the editorial expansion, repositioning and redesign of U.S. Banker and Bank Technology News. Sraeel will report to Jay Berfas, Group Publisher of U.S. Banker and Bank Technology News. · The board of directors of Crain Communications has announced the promotion of Robert Felsenthal to vice president. Felsenthal is publisher of BtoB magazine, Crain Communications' oldest title in the company, which was relaunched from Business Marketing in March 2000. He was named publisher of BtoB in May 2000 after serving as long-time associate publisher of Crain's New York Business. Beth Sestanovich has been named Publisher of LA Weekly and OC Weekly (Orange County, CA), alternative newsweeklies in Southern California and members of Village Voice Media. The announcement was made by David Schneiderman, Chief Executive Officer of Village Voice Media. Ms. Sestanovich will begin her new position on June 3, 2002. · Army Times Publishing Company announced the appointment of the new editor for the company's defense publication. Vago Muradian has been named editor of Defense News. Mr. Muradian will be responsible for setting the editorial tone and direction for the defense newsweekly. · Christie Hefner, chairman and chief executive officer of Playboy Enterprises, Inc. (PEI), announced the election of David F. Zucker to the newly created post of president and chief operating officer. Zucker will be responsible for overseeing and coordinating the business operations of the company. He will report to Hefner. Zucker, 39, joins PEI from Walker Digital LLC, where he served as managing director and oversaw development of Walker's efforts in the online games, ecommerce and gaming businesses. · Rorie Sherman was named as the new editor-in-chief of Primedia's Trusts & Estates magazine. Ms. Sherman was most recently editor-in-chief of American Lawyer Media's Corporate Counsel. At Primedia, she will spearhead the expansion and enhancement of Trusts & Estates' editorial content and lead the exploration of a wider range of topics, including coverage of alternative investments, charitable giving, accounting, legal and foundation/non-profit issues. · Alexander Weber, Jr. has been named President and Chief Executive Officer of Paramount Parks, the theme park unit of Viacom Inc. Paramount Parks is headquartered in Charlotte, NC. Digital Publishing Lia Scott Price turned her novel, The Guardian, (published by Writers Club Press, iUniverse, Inc.), into a screenplay, which was optioned by the Triton Film Group, an independent film company that produces films for domestic and foreign markets. The screenplay, based on the novel, was adapted into a feature film entitled Inner Demons. Inner Demons, an action-thriller about a supernatural vigilante, is on Triton's production schedule and has international presales and distribution. GlobalMentor, Inc. has made available for free over 5,000 electronic books through its publishing division, GlobalMentor Publishing. These works are stored in the widely-used Open eBook (OEB) format and comprise the full collection of classic texts produced by the Project Gutenberg Literary Archive Foundation. The GlobalMentor Publishing editions of the Project Gutenberg collection are available for free at the GlobalMentor Bookstore. Content Deals Borders Books and Music has partnered with Black Issues Book Review to bring authors like Eric Jerome Dickey, Yolanda Young, Brian Keith Jackson and Omar Tyree to Borders stores for author readings and signings. The events will take place throughout the next year in stores across the country. Black Issues Book Review is a bi-monthly magazine designed to highlight both fiction and nonfiction books by and about people of African decent. Interviews with authors, book reviews and articles about the publishing industry are regularly featured in the magazine. The American Lawyer has announced the launch of its electronic edition, an exact digital replica of the magazine, beginning with its June issue. The electronic edition will be published simultaneously with the print edition of the magazine at www.qmags.com/amlaw. The introductory digital issue will be available free of charge and a special promotional subscription rate will be offered to charter subscribers. Subscribers to the electronic edition will be able to download a complete digital copy of each month's magazine, in Adobe PDF, that can be read, searched, archived and printed on their desktop or notebook computer. Launches and Redesigns BlackVoices.com, a destination for African-American adults online, has introduced the BlackVoices.com City Guide, a new service providing local Black entertainment and travel news, restaurant, event, local member profiles and movie information in nine major markets: Los Angeles, Washington D.C., Chicago, Philadelphia, Detroit, Atlanta, New Orleans and Miami-Ft. Lauderdale. By late summer, BlackVoices.com will include 11 additional cities as well as information on attractions, conventions, churches, sports and concerts. In preparation for the new organic standards coming this fall, the Organic Trade Association, an organization representing the organic industry in the U.S. and Canada, has launched The O'Mama Report, an online resource dedicated to providing consumers with organic information. The O'Mama Report, (the "O" is for "organic"), was specifically created to meet the needs of women who were likely to be going through pregnancy, breast feeding or other life changing experiences. During these times, research shows, people are most open to learning more about organic products. SharkPage, Inc. has launched RestaurantShark, a diner-written restaurant review website.
