Monday the Most Popular Day to Surf The Web

Posted on June 7, 2002

WebSideStory, Inc., a provider of outsourced ebusiness intelligence services, reported that based on its findings over the past year, Monday is the most popular day of the week to surf the Internet, while Saturday and Sunday are the least popular. According to WebSideStory's StatMarket, source for data on global Internet user trends, Internet use worldwide on any weekday is higher than on the weekends, indicating that people are not spending much of their weekend leisure time online.

On average, Monday accounts for about 15% of Internet traffic for the week worldwide. In contrast, Saturday and Sunday account for the least amount of Internet traffic, with 13.5%, and 13.7% respectively. Traffic data for this study was gathered between May 20, 2001 and May 18, 2002.

"What we're seeing is that people tend to surf the Internet during the workweek more than at home on the weekends," said Geoff Johnston, vice president of product marketing for StatMarket. "This may imply that much of their personal Web use takes place at work. Or perhaps people have better things to do on the weekend than surf the Internet."
