Clear Channel to Publish Consumer Magazine for Theatergoers

Posted on June 7, 2002

Clear Channel Entertainment, a producer and marketer of live entertainment, announced the publication of a quarterly magazine dedicated to the worldwide theatrical audience. The magazine, Show People: The Theater Lifestyle Magazine, will debut in September 2002 with Patrick Pacheco, veteran theater reporter/columnist for Newsday, The Los Angeles Times and NY-1 Television, serving as editor.

Coverage in Show People will include in depth stories highlighting brand new shows on Broadway, hits that will end up touring across the country, and the celebrities who bring life to the stage. Actors, playwrights, directors, choreographers and designers will all be featured prominently through interviews, pictorial essays and first person stories. Industry news about the theater scene on London's West End and Off-Broadway in New York City will be featured alongside stories highlighting theatre districts around the country as well as regional theatre institutions and festivals.

"Live theater is the only fraction of the entertainment industry that does not have a consumer publication devoted to covering it exclusively," said Scott Zeiger, CEO of Clear Channel Entertainment's Theatrical Division. "We are committed to creating the premier magazine to serve all aspects of the theater community -- from the legions of fans who fill our theaters to the casts and crews that create magic on stages everywhere night after night."

Show People will be published by Clear Channel Entertainment in association with Forbes Custom Communications Partners. The September 2002 debut issue will have 68 pages and will initially be distributed to theater patrons in 45 markets across North America with a print run of 170,000. In the months ahead, Show People will be available on newsstands at a cover price of $3.95.

"Show People is the first consumer magazine dedicated to the thousands of people who create, perform, produce and, most of all, enjoy the live theater experience," said Hailey Lustig, publisher of Show People. "From rising stars to Broadway legends, Show People will be packed with the news, drama, gossip, and excitement that makes live theater such a unique cultural experience."

Show People editor-in-chief Patrick Pacheco is a New York-based journalist whose work has appeared in dozens of American newspapers and magazines. Writing predominantly about the arts, he has contributed to The New York Times, The Los Angeles Times, Newsday, and The Wall Street Journal. His work, including personality profiles of such actors as Katharine Hepburn, Julie Andrews, Liza Minnelli and Michael Douglas; politicians such as Senator George Mitchell; and writers such as Nadine Gordimer and Edna O'Brien, has appeared in Art & Antiques, Cosmopolitan, TV Guide, Premiere, Four Seasons, US, Traditional Home, and Southern Accents Publications, among others.

"I am delighted to be working with Clear Channel and Forbes to bring the thrill of the theater to the pages of a printed publication," Pacheco said. "Some of the finest writers, photographers and design people in the business have been brought together to make Show People as visually exciting and intellectually stimulating as the subject it covers."

Clear Channel Entertainment, a producer and marketer of live entertainment events, is a subsidiary of Clear Channel Worldwide. Clear Channel Entertainment currently owns, operates and/or exclusively books approximately 135 live entertainment venues, including more than 100 in North America and 30 in Europe.
