Advanstar Acquires Motor Service And Combines It With Motor Age

Posted on June 21, 2002

Advanstar Communications Inc. announced that it has acquired Motor Service magazine from MCA Communications, LLC (formerly Adams Business Media). As a result of the acquisition, Motor Service will be incorporated into Advanstar's Motor Age publication, and Motor Service will cease publication with its June 2002 issue.

"By acquiring the well-respected Motor Service publication, we will be able to offer greater value and increased benefits to customers," said Bob Krakoff, Advanstar's Chairman and CEO. "Namely, merging the magazine's circulation will result in a stronger audience for our advertisers of automotive repair shops and service centers. Advertisers can be confident their message is reaching the largest and most important audience in the market."

"Our decision to sell Motor Service was a strategic one," said Mark Adams, Chief Executive Officer of MCA Communications, LLC. "Advanstar's decision to combine the assets of Motor Service into Motor Age, the two leading publications, will result in one very powerful product for readers and advertisers of both magazines."

Motor Age was established in 1899 and is published monthly. Advanstar says Motor Age is the leading publication in terms of market share and reader preference. Motor Age is part of Advanstar's Automotive Group, which also includes Aftermarket Business and Automotive Body Repair News publications and related properties.
