Luxner Acquires CubaNews From Target Research

Posted on June 28, 2002

CubaNews, a monthly newsletter focusing on economic and political developments in Cuba, has been acquired from its previous publishers by Luxner News Inc., a Maryland-registered corporation. Established in 1993 by the Miami Herald Publishing Co. and sold to Washington-based Target Research in 1998, CubaNews is a provider of Cuba-related business information. The new publisher, Larry Luxner -- who purchased CubaNews from Target -- is a veteran freelance journalist specializing in coverage of Latin America and the Caribbean.

Beginning with the June 2002 issue, CubaNews has doubled in size from eight to 16 pages. The publication's new features include charts, graphs and maps covering key sectors of the Cuban economy: agribusiness, banking, biotechnology, ecommerce, manufacturing, nickel mining, oil and gas exploration, real estate, shipping, sugar, telecom, tobacco and tourism. The newsletter -- with freelance correspondents in Washington, Miami and Havana -- now includes interviews with key people involved in Cuba-related issues, as well as two full pages of business briefs and a comprehensive calendar of events.

A one-year subscription to CubaNews includes the option of receiving the newsletter electronically (in PDF format) at no extra charge. Subscribers also get Internet access to archived issues going back to 1998.

CubaNews is Luxner News Inc.'s second publishing venture. In 1995, the company founded South America Report, selling the 24-page newsletter four years later to Business Monitor International of London. It continues to operate an online stock photo agency featuring color images of Latin America, Caribbean, Europe, Middle East and Africa.
