Interracial Greeting Card Company Launches

Melting Pot Gifts has launched with a line of greeting cards that reflects the changing picture of family by providing cards and gifts which focus on interracial relationships. At Melting Pot Gifts, consumers can view, order and send paper cards. The line of interracially themed cards celebrates weddings, mothers, fathers, and other occasions.

The new interracial greeting cards could interest a potentially large demographic. 6.8 million people indicated they were multiracial during the 2000 census implying an equally large number of people in multiracial relationships. Many of these couples want cards that look like them. Their children are reassured by cards with pictures of children that reflect their identity.

"Because interracial couples and children are not clustered in any geographic region, Melting Pot Gifts is relying on the Internet as a method to reach the niche," said Michelle Emerson, Co-Founder of Melting Pot Gifts, adding, "The Internet is a great sales channel for us because it allows us to help build the interracial community even though it is disperse."

Founders Michelle Emerson and Dan Dodson are an interracial couple living in Trenton, NJ. Artists and writers from across North America have been involved in creating the company's line of greeting cards. The company also sells books and videos through an affiliation with barnesandnoble.com.
