The awards were held at the California Palace of the Legion of Honor on Tuesday, June 18, 2002 in San Francisco. Winners were announced in 33 categories for the prestigious Webby Award, and 30 categories for the People's Voice Award, where the online community votes for their favorite sites. Founded in 1996, The Webby Awards provide honors for consumer websites and individual achievement in technology and creativity. The International Academy of Digital Arts and Sciences selects the nominees, winners, and presents the awards event.
