Palm Unveils Palm Reader for Mac and Windows

Posted on July 26, 2002

Palm Digital Media, a publisher and distributor of ebooks for handhelds, unveiled new versions of its Palm Reader ebook application for Mac and Windows at Macworld Expo. The announcement opens the Palm Reader library of over 5,000 ebooks to desktop and notebook computer users. Palm Reader will also now compete directly with the Adobe Ebook Reader and Microsoft Reader software.

"For the first time, ebook readers can build a library of ebooks that they can read on-the-go, at work or from home on their platform of choice," said Jeff Strobel, director of Palm Digital Media. "Although Palm Reader was originally designed for handhelds, users will be instantly comfortable and familiar with the features and navigation tools no matter which platform they choose."

Each computing platform requires a different version of Palm Reader. Palm Reader ebooks can be moved easily between desktops, notebooks and handhelds. Once Palm Reader is installed, ebooks can be transferred and read on all four platforms without modification. Palm Reader for Desktops automatically resizes the ebook for a larger screen and reflows the text. It offers many of the same features available with the handheld version, allowing customers to bookmark pages, add notes, and change fonts and type sizes, plus it adds new features such as the ability to choose from a variety of backgrounds.
