Trellix Adds Weblog Management Product

Posted on August 23, 2002

Trellix Corporation, a provider of website building technology and hosting solutions, announced the launch of a weblog management solution that is fully integrated with the company's web publishing tools and platform. The new fee-based services will be through Trellix partners.

"Weblogs let anyone demonstrate their expertise, share knowledge, or create closer customer relationships through frequent postings," said Trellix CTO Dan Bricklin. "By adding native, easy-to-use blogging capabilities to our core web publishing platform, we are giving these users a powerful and simple way to extend the breadth of their web presence and create an ongoing dialog with people who share their interests and hobbies."

Tellix said the latest release stems from joint efforts between Trellix and blog industry pioneer Evan Williams, president of Pyra Labs and creator of the Blogger blog publishing tool. Trellix announced the licensing of Pyra's Blogger technology in 2001. However, Trellix has now developed its own blogging solution to offer to its customers. Both Trellix and Pyra Labs compete with a growing number of >weblog host providers.

On the Trellix website Bricklin writes about the differences between Pyra's Blogger and the new weblog management product from Trellix. Bricklin writes: "Blogger as provided by Pyra will continue to be a way to publish the blog component of your website wherever you'd like. Trellix, on the other hand, will continue to deploy a system that is private labeled by others to provide integrated authoring and web site hosting." Issues with integration appear to be the main reason Trellix could not work Blogger into its web publishing system. Trellix and Pyra Labs will maintain a modest financial relationship.

Trellix's solution is designed to give mainstream users both the power of a blog and the flexibility and stability of a website, allowing them to easily create and share journals, essays and diaries. Additionally, small businesses can use blogs to share advice, provide ongoing technical support, or post password-protected project reports.
