Penton Media Launches Responder Safety Publication

Posted on September 6, 2002

Penton Media Inc., a business-to-business media company, has announced the launch of Responder Safety, which will serve the information needs of emergency response teams and Homeland Security organizations as they face heightened challenges from natural and man-made emergencies. Homeland Protection Professional, a competiting home security oriented publication was launch in August, 2002 by A.J. Parrino & Associates, Ltd..

The inaugural issue of Responder Safety will be distributed in October 2002. The publication was developed by Penton's Occupational Hazards, a monthly magazine serving the $22 billion occupational safety and industrial hygiene market. Both Responder Safety and Occupational Hazards will be distributed at October's National Safety Congress in San Diego. Responder Safety will be published quarterly in 2003. The tabloid-size publication will reach a list of 20,000 influential emergency response professionals.

"Recent events in our country certainly have brought the issues of emergency personnel safety to the forefront," said John DiPaola, group publisher of Responder Safety, Occupational Hazards (OH) and New Equipment Digest. "An increasing number of emergency personnel managers were inquiring about information found in the pages of OH. Their growing responsibilities mandate that they be current on the latest personal protection news and products. We are launching Responder Safety as a standalone publication to fill the vital, specialized information needs these professionals have for authoritative news and personal protective products information."

Each issue of Responder Safety will provide articles written by professional journalists and emergency response experts on product information and applications, regulatory and legislative news, incident response, state and federal grant information, best practices, training, and industry case studies. The editorial team will be led by Editorial Director Steve Minter, who has 25 years of experience as a journalist in the safety industry.
