Surfing Girl Relaunches as sg

The Southern California-based Action Sports Group of Primedia, a special-interest magazine publisher, announced the relaunch of Surfing Girl magazine as sg: Surf Snow Skate Girl. The new title reflects expanded editorial content that includes girls snowboarding and skating as well as the magazine's mainstay -- surfing.

"It's the right time to expand," says sg editor Kai Stearns. "While we are committed to our surfing roots, a lot of our readers also snowboard and skate. We're all about capturing a lifestyle for the girl that's athletic, adventurous and independent."

sg will continue to target the same audience as before -- girls between 15 and 22 -- through surfing, skating and snowboarding features, how-to stories, contest coverage and travel stories. Readers will also find fashion, beauty, health, letters, music, art and horoscopes. Published six times per year, sg is available through newsstands and subscriptions as well as at Wal-Mart, Safeway, Sports Authority, CVS, Kroger stores and specialty retailers. Total audience is estimated at 450,000.

sg will celebrate its launch with a private party, including a silent auction of special board sports collectibles, on October 1, 2002 at Falcon Club in Hollywood, CA. Auction proceeds will benefit LA-based Boarding for Breast Cancer, a not-for-profit foundation that supports breast cancer outreach and advocacy among teen girls.
