Paddlesport Publishing Buys Kayak Magazine

Posted on September 20, 2002

Paddlesport Publishing, Inc. (PPI), publishers of Paddler, Paddle Dealer and The Drake, announced that it has signed an agreement with the publishers of Kayak magazine to purchase the title. PPI plans to publish its newest title twice yearly in the spring and fall. Kayak is a magazine devoted to whitewater pursuits only, and is aimed chiefly at the 16-32 year old demographic.

Theres a whole generation of hard-core, new school, rad-dad paddlers out there who crave whitewater-only coverage, says Eugene Buchanan, Publisher and Editor-in-Chief of Paddler.

According to Buchanan, Kayak will include profiles of leading kayakers, whitewater competition coverage, expedition reports and a photo-heavy format. Buchanan stressed that Kayaks whitewater-focused coverage will not effect Paddlers content. Paddler magazine currrently covers canoeing, kayaking and rafting.

Our editorial staff has over 30 years of Class V paddling experience and are still a regular part of the whitewater scene, he said. Buchanan has whitewater descents in more than 20 countries and Managing Editor Frederick Reimers kayaks over 120 days every year.
