Reader's Digest Launches RD Specials For Supermarket Racks

The Reader's Digest Association, Inc. is launching RD Specials, an extensive line of publications for supermarket checkout racks nationwide including Wal-Mart, Target and Kmart. This program features the brands of Reader's Digest and Reiman Publications. RD Specials include health, food and home content from Reader's Digest, Taste of Home, The Family Handyman magazines and the Books and Home Entertainment division of Reader's Digest. The first of 17 annual RD Special issues will go on sale November 4.

"We are pleased to enter the supermarket checkout field with high-quality publications that extend the franchises of our existing titles," said Frank Lalli, Vice President for Development.

Upcoming titles include: Taste of Home's Holiday Classics -- festive food ideas featuring a collection of seasonal starters and side dishes, meaty main courses and dazzling desserts; A Celebration of Christmas -- heartwarming stories, great food and memorable craft creations including step-by-step projects for holiday decorations and gifts; Medical Breakthroughs/2003 -- an up-to-the-minute handbook that presents the past year's breakthrough cures and treatments, and educates readers about cutting-edge drugs, new surgeries and diagnostic tests.

The digest-sized RD Specials will feature photography and graphics and will be aimed largely at women between 35 and 49. The program will launch with a total distribution of more than 400,000 copies per issue.
