Lynne Cheney to Publish Second Children's Book

Simon & Schuster Books for Young Readers, an imprint of Simon & Schuster Children's Publishing, has announced plans to publish a second book by Lynne Cheney, senior fellow at the American Enterprise Institute and wife of Vice President Dick Cheney. A Is for Abigail Adams, a follow-up to the #1 New York Times bestselling America: A Patriotic Primer, is scheduled for publication in fall 2003. Mrs. Cheney's net proceeds from the book will be donated to charity.

An alphabet book, A Is for Abigail Adams will celebrate the contributions women have made to American history, and Mrs. Cheney will again collaborate with illustrator Robin Preiss Glasser. "One of the noteworthy scholarly achievements of the last quarter century has been the recovery of women's history," said Mrs. Cheney. "We are now aware of female accomplishment in a way we have not been before, and this book will be a way to introduce the stories of many women -- from Abigail Adams to Babe Didrickson Zaharias -- to elementary school children and their families."

"The nation's remarkable response to America: A Patriotic Primer demonstrates that there is great demand for quality books for families about American history," said Kristina Peterson, President of Simon & Schuster Children's Publishing. "We are delighted that Mrs. Cheney has chosen American women as the subject for her next book -- one which will illuminate pioneers from our nation's past and inspire future generations of children for years to come."

Robert B. Barnett represented the agreement for Mrs. Cheney, and Faith Hamlin of Sanford J. Greenburger Associates is the agent for Robin Preiss Glasser.
