Smith & Hawken Announces Partnership With Katherine Whiteside

Smith & Hawken announced that author and garden expert, Katherine Whiteside, will serve as the company's advisor and spokesperson. Whiteside is a respected garden writer and consultant who specializes in garden how-to, garden style and history, and in the history of plant discovery. She currently writes a monthly feature for House Beautiful. Whiteside's articles have also appeared in numerous other publications.

"Katherine's background and deep garden-knowledge make her the perfect match for Smith & Hawken," said Lisa Bayne, Smith & Hawken Sr. Vice President of Marketing. "We look forward to gathering Katherine's insight and advice so Smith & Hawken can continue to provide consumers with top-quality products for the garden and home."

Whiteside is the author of three award-winning books Antique Flowers, Classic Bulbs and Forcing, etc: the indoor gardener's guide to bulbs, blossoms, and branches. Workman Publishing and Smith & Hawken published Forcing, etc. in 1999 and the book is currently in its fourth printing. Whiteside also makes frequent appearances on national and local television, and lectures and conducts garden seminars throughout the country.

Smith & Hawken offers products for the garden and home through 45 retail locations, a catalog, and online at SmithandHawken.com. Founded in 1979 as a source for garden tools, the company has expanded its offerings to include heirloom teak furniture, unusual plants and containers, garden ornament and structure, weekend workwear, and other garden-related products. Smith & Hawken employs more than 800 people in its Novato, California corporate offices and retail locations.
