Medical Publisher Launches Family Health Matters

MultiMedia Healthcare/Freedom, a division of Freedom Magazines, has launched Family Health Matters: A Woman's Guide to Family Medicine. Nearly one million copies of the new magazine will be published quarterly and distributed free of charge at 4,100 CVS pharmacies nationwide.

Under the direction of The Partnership for Gender-Specific Medicine at Columbia University and its founder, Marianne J. Legato, MD, Family Health Matters is a consumer publication focusing on gender-specific health. Each issue will feature a specific health topic that affects women and their families, from bone and heart health to aging and stress management.

For Robert Preston, CEO of MultiMedia Healthcare/Freedom, said, "This is an advertising vehicle that not only reaches the primary people who do the buying but family members as well," he said, pointing out that the magazine can play an important role in any pharmaceutical product's overall marketing program. To establish a more effective doctor-patient relationship physicians are encouraging patients to become informed about health issues and to become advocates for their own personal care." The result, he added, is an information overload, particularly among women. "Family Health Matters cuts through the clutter, with content that readers can trust because it's backed by the authority of Columbia University, a world-class institution."

Dr. Legato, the editor of Family Health Matters and a professor at Columbia University, agreed. "The changing medical landscape is making women's lives more complicated than ever," she said. "Our goal is to arm women with the information they need to make educated decisions -- for themselves and for their families."

In addition to Family Health Matters, MultiMedia HealthCare/Freedom publishes The Journal of Gender-Specific Medicine, a peer-reviewed journal that is the official publication of the Partnership for Gender-Specific Medicine at Columbia University. The company also publishes Clinical Geriatrics, The Annals of Long-Term Care, and Home Health Care Consultant, and sponsors meetings and other medical education programs for health care professionals.
