· Adelphia Communications Corporation announced that it has entered into an agreement which names William T. Schleyer, former President and CEO of AT&T Broadband, as Chairman of the Adelphia Board of Directors and Chief Executive Officer. The agreement also names Ron Cooper, AT&T Broadband's former Chief Operating Officer, as Adelphia's President and COO. The agreement, which is subject to approval from the Bankruptcy Court for the Southern District of New York, will be submitted to the Court early next week. Mr. Schleyer will succeed Chairman and interim Chief Executive Officer Erland "Erkie" Kailbourne, who has held both positions since May 2002 following the departure of Adelphia's prior management. Mr. Kailbourne will continue to serve as a member of the Board of Directors of Adelphia.

· CMP Media, a technology media company, announced the promotion of Jeff Patterson to Executive Vice President Corporate Sales and Marketing, a new position at the company. Patterson, who has more than twenty years as a publishing and marketing executive in the technology business-to-business marketplace, will be responsible for CMP's corporate sales and marketing programs here and abroad. Paul Miller was named Group Publisher, Electronics, a position formerly held by Mr. Patterson. Patterson has held several positions since joining CMP Media in 1997.

· Alacritude, LLC -- publisher of eLibrary.com and Encyclopedia.com -- announced the appointment of Rich Kreisman as vice president of business development, effective immediately. Most recently, Kreisman was vice president of business development at iSyndicate and vice president of business development at Thomson's Gale Group. In this new position, Kreisman will be responsible for all of Alacritude's revenue generating activities, such as managing all major online strategic partnerships as well as Alacritude's affiliate program which supports subscription acquisition. He will also be charged with creating new sources of ecommerce and sponsorship revenue, and he will supervise the company's major content relationships.

· Tad Smith, President of the Reed Business Information (RBI) Media Group, announced the appointment of Joe Tessitore as VP/Group Publisher of its Publishing Group. Tessitore, who started with the company in November as Managing Director of the Publishing Group, replaces Fred Ciporen who was recently named President of RBI Press. In this role, Tessitore is responsible for the continuing strategic development of Publishers Weekly, Library Journal, School Library Journal and Criticas and leading the Group's new business initiatives, which include online newsletters, educational industry forums and increased industry research.

· Bob Guccione, Jr., Editor-in-Chief of GEAR, announced the appointment of Teresa M. Kendregan as Publisher of GEAR, a pop culture and fashion magazine for young men. While Senior Vice President of Business Development at Fairchild Publications, Kendregan developed a multi-platform business plan for Fairchild's media properties including Women's Wear Daily, W, Details and Jane. She also created programs for key advertisers and subscribers integrating the full complement of Fairchild print and online properties.

· Andy Bigford, currently Editor-in-Chief of Mountain Sports Media's SKI Magazine, has been promoted to Vice President, General Manager of the group's Warren Miller Entertainment. Bigford replaces Bailey Pryor, who is leaving to launch his own film production company. Kendall Hamilton of MBA Jungle magazine has been named Editor of SKI Magazine, replacing Bigford. Both appointments, announced by Andy Clurman, President of Time4 Media's Mountain Sports Media, are effective immediately. In his new role as Vice President, General Manager of Warren Miller Entertainment, Bigford will be responsible for the day-to-day management of Mountain Sports' Warren Miller franchise, which includes the annual feature film, the international film tour, and all Warren Miller Films' productions. In his new role, Bigford will also work closely with Mountain Sports' and Time4's leading brands in the development of cross-platform editorial and marketing programs.

· Dominick F. Rossi, Jr., Executive Publisher of Reader's Digest U.S. Magazines, has been promoted to the new position of Vice President, Executive Director of Corporate Sales for The Reader's Digest Association, Inc., it was announced by Eric W. Schrier, President, U.S. Magazines and Global Editor-in-Chief of the company. In Rossi's new capacity, he will work closely with the company's business-unit heads to drive large-scale, revenue-producing programs for existing and new clients. He will accelerate the expansion of existing franchises, including ChangeOne and the National Word Power Challenge(SM). And he will also initiate new ventures and create major partnerships with outside companies.

· Workforce media, an information source for HR professionals, announced the assignment of Valerie Aguilar as National Online Sales Manager and Mark Weinstein as Eastern Sales Manager. Formerly, Mr. Weinstein served in the National Online Sales Manager capacity from Workforce's southern California location and has been instrumental in building Workforce online advertising products, forging new alliances, and developing new business. In his new capacity, Mr. Weinstein will be relocating to offices in Manhattan and will primarily develop and service print advertising accounts for 24 eastern states.

· Aerias, an online resource for indoor air quality information, has named BJ Spanos as managing editor, effective January 16, 2003. For the past 10 years, BJ Spanos has written extensively about IAQ issues, including toxic mold and risk management, productivity and IAQ, and allergies and asthma. She recently researched and authored a landmark publication, Mold: Cause, Effect and Response, on mold in construction for the Foundation of Wall and Ceiling Industries.

· Gemstar-TV Guide International, Inc. announced that Chuck Cordray has been named Vice President of Consumer Marketing for the TV Guide Publishing Group. In this newly-created position, Mr. Cordray will be responsible for all consumer marketing functions and circulation activity for TV Guide's print publications as well as its 57-million-name database. He will be based in New York, and will report directly to TV Guide Publishing Group President John Loughlin. Mr. Cordray comes to Gemstar-TV Guide from Primedia, Inc., where he served as Vice President of Circulation Business Development in the Consumer Magazine and Media Group.

· Digital Imaging (DI) magazine, a publication serving digital imaging professionals, announced that digital imaging expert Helene DeLillo has joined the publication as creative and editorial director. Ms. DeLillo's addition coincides with the unveiling of the magazine's new digitized look serving a more targeted audience of digital imaging professionals. Ms. DeLillo will bring along a team of digital imaging experts as editorial contributors.

· John P. Wilcox, chief executive officer of The Commercial Appeal in Memphis, has been named publisher of the newspaper, effective immediately. He is the paper's first publisher. The Commercial Appeal is owned and operated by The E. W. Scripps Company (NYSE: SSP). Wilcox came to Memphis in 2000 when he was named vice president and general manager. He previously had been president and publisher of the Scripps-owned Ventura County (Calif.) Star. Wilcox has been with Scripps for 22 years holding a variety of positions, including business manager of The Stuart (Fla.) News. A graduate of Florida Atlantic University, Wilcox joined The Stuart News in 1981 as human resources director.

· LexisNexis, a legal, news and business information services, has hired M. Randy Dunham as a public relations manager in its Corporate Communications department. In this position, Dunham will be responsible for creating and implementing programs that establish and provide support for the LexisNexis publishing companies and their offerings to attorneys and law firms. He reports to Mary Dale Walters, vice president, Global Marketing and Communications.

· Cathy Baron Tamraz has been appointed president of Business Wire. Tamraz, who will retain her position as chief operating officer, is responsible for the company's day-to-day sales and operations, long-term strategic planning and global branding. Her expanding portfolio will include international expansion, new technology initiatives, and regulatory and legislative disclosure issues in the United States and abroad. Tamraz will continue to be based in Business Wire's New York office and will spend considerable time in the company's San Francisco headquarters. Tamraz joined Business Wire in 1979 in San Francisco as a news editor. She opened the company's New York office in 1980 and was named head of the New York region in 1987. In 1990, Tamraz was named a vice president and appointed to the company's board of directors. She was named senior vice president in 1994 and elevated to executive vice president in 1998. She was named chief operating officer in January 2000.

· Kaplan, Inc. has named Rebecca O. Campoverde, former Assistant U.S. Secretary of Education, as its Director of Public Affairs, a new position. Ms. Campoverde will be based in Washington D.C. and will coordinate Kaplan's legislative and regulatory interactions with federal and state governments. Kaplan is a wholly-owned subsidiary of The Washington Post Company.

· Nan deBrandt, who guided McLean Literary Associates from a fledgling company in 1992 to a nationally recognized literary agency, announced that Lisa Ann Martin, a Palm Springs-based journalist, is a new partner. Martin will team with deBrandt and Donna McLean Nixon, deBrandt’s daughter, who heads the Las Vegas office. Martin will work with new clients and assist deBrandt with editing. The addition of Martin will also allow to deBrandt to find new publishers for her clients by attending book expos in New York, Chicago, London and Frankfurt Germany.

Content Deals

· USA Interactive announced the successful completion of its acquisition of the outstanding shares of Ticketmaster that it did not already own. Concurrent with the completion of the Ticketmaster acquisition, John Pleasants, formerly President and CEO of Ticketmaster, has assumed his new position as President, USA's Information & Services group; and Thomas J. McInerney, formerly Ticketmaster's Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer, has assumed his new position as President, USA's Electronic Retailing group. Additionally, Anne Busquet has begun serving as President, USA's new Travel Services group. At Ticketmaster, Terry Barnes has reassumed the CEO position, in addition to his role as Chairman.

· Dow Jones & Company and The Washington Post Company announced that the international editions of The Wall Street Journal will soon begin publishing daily news and opinion articles from The Washington Post. From April 1, 2003, The Post articles will be exclusive to the Journal for international newspapers in the English language. Under the agreement, The Wall Street Journal Europe and The Asian Wall Street Journal will have access each day to news and feature articles offered by the editors of The Post, as well as Post opinion columns. Journal editors will select articles for publication; it is expected that the Journal editions will publish both news and opinion articles from The Post each business day.

· Soccer Development of America announced it has signed a cross promotional advertising agreement with Fox Sports World, a wholly owned division of Fox Entertainment Group, Inc. Fox Sports World offers match play from numerous leagues including the Barclaycard English Premier League, La Liga from Spain, the German Bundesliga, the Scottish Premier League, the Brazilian League and the Argentine League. Soccer Development of America will carry a full page, four-color ad for Fox Sports World in its national, monthly soccer publication, 90:00 Minutes Soccer Magazine. Soccer Development of America's new magazine will receive promotion on Fox Sports World that includes video banners and billboard ads during the Barclaycard English Premier League, and Argentinean, German and Scottish Premier League matches.

· Fast Search & Transfer (FAST), a developer of search and real-time filtering technologies, and Elsevier, a leading publisher of scientific, technical and medical information products and services, announced an agreement between the companies to further deploy and license FAST Data Search within existing and new subsidiaries of Elsevier.

Launches and Redesigns

· PennWell is launching the Homeland Security Solutions publication and the Homeland Security Solutions Conference & Exhibition, focusing on systems applications for terrorist threat, prevention, and response. The publication will launch at the show, which will be April 23-24, 2003 at the Baltimore Convention Center in Baltimore. Homeland Security Solutions is the news publication of systems applications for public and private initiatives in the United States to safeguard American citizens and interests from foreign and domestic terror attack, and respond to attacks in a coordinated fashion when they happen.

· BeRead Corporation, a new publishing industry information network, based in San Jose, CA, is building an online publishing industry directory with the intention of bringing the entire publishing industry under one roof. BeRead will offer both free listings and fee-based listings in the directory.
