Electronic Media Becomes TelevisionWeek

Posted on January 24, 2003

Electronic Media is set to re-launch March 3 with a new focus, a broader mandate and a new name, TelevisionWeek. Electronic Media has served the TV syndication, broadcast, station, cable, advertising, technology and financial communities for the past 20 years. Given the increasingly dynamic nature of the TV industry entering the 21st century, Crain Communications said it has decided to recast the publication as TelevisionWeek.

"TelevisionWeek will continue to serve our core audience without interruption, and with the same straightforward policy of emphasizing quality journalism and editorial excellence," said Chuck Ross, Publisher and Editorial Director. "We will continue to offer the most up-to-date news, analysis and insight about the distribution of TV programming in the United States."

TelevisionWeek will also cover other aspects of the global TV industry, including increased attention to production, marketing, talent and new media. Signature columnists like Tom Shales, Diane Mermigas and Philip Swann will continue to write for TelevisionWeek, and the publication plans to add new voices to provide a more direct connection to the TV industry in Hollywood, New York and around the world.

"We are adding new dimensions to our editorial coverage and taking a much more in-depth approach to the television industry," says EM Editor Alex Ben Block. "As we celebrate our 20th anniversary, we recognize that the world of broadcasting has changed dramatically. There are more networks, cable channels and syndicated shows than ever before. Our new look, new name and new attitude will help us bring more of the world of television to our readers than ever before."

Ross will continue to serve as TelevisionWeek's Publisher and Editorial Director, and Block will continue as Editor. A veteran reporter with 18 years experience covering television and media, Ross joined Electronic Media as editor in January 2000. Previously, Ross was media editor at Advertising Age, another Crain publication. Entertainment journalist Alex Ben Block was appointed editor of EM in January 2003. He has served as editor of The Hollywood Reporter and associate editor of Forbes prior to joining EM.
