CyberRead, Inc. Acquires eBookstand

Posted on May 23, 2003

CyberRead, an independent ebookstore and distributor, announced that it has acquired print on demand service provider, eBookstand. eBookstand is a six year old company with nearly 500 titles. eBookstand offers perfect bound trade paperback and Adobe PDF formatted ebooks to authors and provides local seminars throughout the Northern California area. CyberRead, founded in March 1999, specializes in digital rights management (DRM), digital conversion and digital distribution of book content and other documents.

Print on demand (POD) is a technology that allows a complete book to be printed and bound in a matter of minutes. POD makes it easier and more cost-effective to produce books one or two at a time or in small lots, rather than in large print runs of several thousand.

"With the addition of eBookstand, we believe that we offer the best overall value in the book publishing industry. We want to help authors be successful in marketing their books. This is a tremendous advantage for authors as CyberRead's complete line of services allows for a title to be offered to a truly global market." said CyberRead founder and CEO Marilyn Jenkins.

CyberRead will continue offering print on demand services through eBookstand.com, as well as expand the services offered there. Prior to acquiring eBookstand, CyberRead worked with over 175 authors and publishers with AOL Time Warner and Warren Adler among them. CyberRead offers over 5,000 ebook titles in formats such as Mobipocket for the PDA market, Adobe eBook Reader, and Microsoft Reader from its website as well as distribution through Amazon.com, BarnesAndNoble.com and Borders.com. CyberRead's distribution channels include over 125 retail websites and thousands of retail bookstores.

"CyberRead is one of the true pioneers in the ebook industry and I am delighted to be working with such a dynamic publishing technology company," stated John T. Nightingale, Founder of eBookstand. "eBookstand was looking for an experienced and versatile ebook company to take it to the next level and found it in CyberRead."
