Internet World Moves From Print to Digital Format

Posted on May 30, 2003

Penton Media's U.S. edition of Internet World magazine is transitioning to an electronic media franchise. Internet World's print magazine will cease publication of its monthly print magazine with its June 2003 issue. The online edition of Internet World will include a weekly enewsletter, an expanded website, web events, and webcasts. The magazine's 175,000 subscribers will be offered a free subscription to the weekly enewsletter, Internet World's Internet Business, and will be provided with expanded Internet business information services at its website, internetworld.com.

"There's no denying that the use of Internet technology in support of business objectives is a real and important trend," said David Blansfield, Group Publisher, Business Technology Group. "However, there's also no denying that technology advertising spending in print remains constrained. For Internet World to grow its subscriber base here in the U.S., the best way to accomplish that goal is to 'practice what we preach' by achieving our business objectives online."

Internet World's Internet Business will report and provide analysis on Internet business news. The weekly email newsletter will cover technology developments, regulatory issues, process management best practices, and business/cultural/social trends that impact Internet business. Internet World's expanded website will provide research, forums, webcasts, Web events, and Internet business messaging services. The site will also contain an archived database of Internet World articles, as well as a library of white papers and other contributed content.

"The irony of today's U.S. technology and advertising downturn is that while Internet-enabled business transactions and productivity gains continue to grow dramatically, very few information resources solely dedicate themselves to reporting on these trends," said Blansfield. "Professionals charged with driving their organization's e-business and e-commerce strategies have enormous need for timely and practical information. Our new strategy aims to deliver on that need, as businesses continue to evaluate, implement and administer Internet applications to drive sales, boost productivity, and strengthen communications within their organizations and with customers and prospects."
