Mosaic Media Produce Six Films for HBO

Posted on June 20, 2003

Mosaic Media Group is launching a new film project for a series of six films to be produced by Mosaic and acquired by HBO Films. The series will be written and directed by up-and-coming urban filmmakers.

"This is about finding new and fresh talent and giving them the opportunity in an exceptional forum to present their work. Mosaic will aggressively be looking for filmmakers for this project," said Robert Guralnick, president of production for Mosaic Media Group. "We are delighted to have pre-sold this series to HBO. The opportunity to be part of their unique vision and commitment to original filmed entertainment is a great honor for us."

One of the first projects in discussions for the series will be an untitled surreal love triangle. It is described as a "sophistafunk" modern day renaissance musical inspired by the hip-hop duo Outkast's upcoming album SpeakerBox/The Love Below, to be directed by first-time filmmaker and veteran music video director Bryan Barber.

In 2002, Barber garnered national attention for his work on Outkast's music video for the multi-platinum song, "The Whole World." To date, Barber has directed nearly 50 music videos and worked in a variety of video styles with a diverse group of artists including Run DMC, Jaycee Chasez of 'NSync, Killer Mike, Jagged Edge, Jermaine Dupree and Dr. Dre. Barber directed the video for Scooby-Doo featuring Outkast, and has lensed clips for Bow Wow and Queen Latifah.

Mosaic Media Group, launched in July 1999, merged two well-established entertainment companies to create a hybrid with synergies in artist management, film, television and music publishing. Mosaic unites film and music company Atlas Entertainment, and its affiliated division Atlas/Third Rail Management, with the talent management group The Gold/Miller Company. Its diversified interests include roles as a principal shareholder in dick clark productions (Golden Globe Awards, American Music Awards, Academy of Country Music Awards) and Mosaic Music Publishing (Hamstein Music, the libraries of Aerosmith and ZZ Top). Mosaic has also entered the marketing arena with the creation of Elevation Entertainment and a 50% acquisition of the marketing division of the Steven Rifkind Company.

Mosaic produced the box office hit Scooby-Doo and is currently in production on the sequel, Scooby Doo 2: Monsters Unleashed. Principle photography is also about to commence on the Terry Gilliam directed, Brothers Grimm starring Matt Damon and Heath Ledger. Its production entities are responsible for such films as Cool Runnings, 12 Monkeys, City of Angels, Three Kings, Scary Movie 1 & 2 and soon to be released Elf starring Gold Miller client Will Ferrell.
