Emoonlighter Acquires Guru.com Membership Base

Posted on July 11, 2003

Emoonlighter announced it has finalized an agreement to acquire the employer membership base of Guru.com, an online marketplace for freelance talent located in the Silicon Valley. In addition to the employer membership base, Emoonlighter also acquired the guru.com domain name. These acquired assets will be merged with Emoonlighter's online marketplace for freelance talent. Employers registered on Guru who wish not to transition their account to Emoonlighter or who already have an Emoonlighter account will be given an opportunity to "opt out" of having an Emoonlighter account created for them. Over the next several weeks, traffic on Guru's website will be redirected to Emoonlighter's website.

Guru.com was an online marketplace for freelance talent which shut down June 30th. Guru was founded in April, 1999. Emoonlighter will officially adopt the Guru name on January 1, 2004.

"We are very excited about this acquisition," said Inder Guglani, Emoonlighter's CEO and Co-Founder. "Guru is a terrific brand with a great heritage. It is easily the best-known brand in our space. The combination of this strong brand with our operating expertise will serve as an important catalyst to the evolution of the freelance marketplace from offline to online."

Emoonlighter is a database of freelance and contract talent. Created in August 2000, Emoonlighter's web-based marketplace connects businesses with freelancers who specialize in four professional categories: IT work, creative design work, office administration work, and business consulting. Businesses seeking professional expertise can post their projects or contract work on Emoonlighter's four specialized sites for free. Emoonlighter has both free and fee-based registration for professionals seeking work. Emoonlighter says it currently has a client base of over 320,000 professionals and over 30,000 employers.
