Single Mom Creates Website For Single Parents

Posted on August 15, 2003

Laura Ladd has launched ForSingleParents.com, a resource which helps struggling single parents. The site provides networking for singles mothers with sections including: Housing & Roommates, Childcare Exchanges, and Friendship & Dating. Launched in April, the site is being offered free to members who join.

A single mom herself, Ladd invested in the development of ForSingleParents.com so that a single parent could simply enter a zip code to locate single parents with the same needs. Ladd said there are over 10-million single parent families nationwide. Ladd toyed with the idea for the site for more than a decade. As a young mother alone, she felt helpless with nowhere to turn.

"My problems are over now that my daughter's all grown-up. Yet, I keep thinking about the thousands of others who are just beginning the journey. They have no idea what lies ahead. I want to provide them with a tool that will help them survive along the way."

ForSingleParents.com has been featured in the San Diego Union-Tribune, ComputorEdge Magazine, on KOGO-AM Radio in San Diego, and most recently in the Peninsula Beacon. Ladd even hands out fliers at local community events to make sure that the momentum keeps going.

"It's impossible to describe how difficult it is to be a Single Parent. Financially, socially, emotionally, geographically -- you name it...," mentioned a ForSingleParents.com member. "Even educated, employed people like myself, can barely make ends meet! Admittedly, I'm faced with living with my parents at 32-yrs of age, or renting a basement from a stranger. (Ladd) has created a web site that appeals to my every need as a truly struggling Single Mom."
