"Teens are now spending more time online than they do watching TV," said Douglas W. McCormick, Chairman and CEO of iVillage Inc. "With teenagers spending approximately $170 billion annually this demographic and its spending power is very attractive to both advertisers and iVillage. This acquisition expands our advertiser base bringing in new categories and new customers. It also is a solid, strategic fit with our brand and establishes a lifelong, life stage relationship with women." iVillage will acquire gURL.com, its trademarks, URLs, intellectual property and key contracts. Key members of gURL.com's staff, including co-founders Esther Drill and Heather McDonald, will join iVillage. Esther Drill, Editor-in-Chief, gURL.com said, "The parallels between gURL.com and iVillage are strong. It has always been our commitment to discuss issues that affect the lives of teenage girls in a nonjudgmental, personal way.
