Peachpit and TechTV to Publish TechTV Press

Posted on August 15, 2003

Berkeley-based computer book publisher Peachpit and cable TV network TechTV have joined forces to publish books under the TechTV Press imprint. Books to be published under this new imprint will be a blend of Peachpit's consumer-friendly editorial style and TechTV's insider savvy.

"We are thrilled to be able to draw on TechTV's expertise by publishing books that will provide readers with informative and entertaining topics," said Glenn Farrell, vice president of strategic development for TechTV. "By building on our existing relationship with Peachpit and forming the new imprint, new and existing consumers alike will have the opportunity to experience an extension of TechTV's program offerings."

The first book to release as a result of this new partnership is TechTV's Security Alert: Stories of Real People Protecting Themselves from Identity Theft, Viruses, and Scams by TechTV's Tech Live personality, Becky Worley. In this practical guide, Worley carefully outlines the steps readers can take to secure their data, identity, and privacy in an age of cyber-crime and near-constant virus scares. This book delves into all of the areas where readers and their computers may be vulnerable to attack: hacking, identity theft, online purchasing, virus attacks, email and Internet scams, online dating and communities, kids and the Internet, and more. In addition to the book, a companion 60-minute Security Alert special hosted by Worley will air on Sunday, August 3.

Additional TechTV Press titles for 2003 include TechTV's Tech of Golf, TechTV's Wired for Sex, Sell it on eBay: TechTV's Guide to Successful Online Auctions, TechTV's Mod Mania with Yoshi: A Guide to Customizing Your Computer & Other Digital Devices, TechTV's Microsoft Windows XP for Home Users 2nd Edition, and TechTV's Upgrading Your PC 2nd Edition. Also available this year is TechTV Leo Laporte's 2004 Technology Almanac -- TechTV's third annual collection of technology tips and tricks provided by on-air host Leo Laporte.

Berkeley-based Peachpit has been publishing graphic design, desktop publishing, multimedia, Web publishing, and general computing books since 1986.
