Southern Progress To Launch Cottage Living Magazine

Posted on November 14, 2003

Southern Progress Corporation, a Birmingham-based subsidiary of Time Inc., will launch a new national magazine, Cottage Living, in September 2004, announced Southern Progress President and CEO Tom Angelillo. Eleanor Griffin was named vice president and editor and Stephen Bohlinger was named vice president and publisher of Cottage Living.

The first issue of Cottage Living, September/October 2004, will arrive at newsstands across the country next August. The magazine's website will launch simultaneously. The perfect-bound magazine will have an initial rate base of 500,000, with a cover price of $3.95 and a subscription rate of $18. Two issues will be published in 2004. In 2005, Cottage Living will move to a schedule of 10 issues per year.

"Cottage Living taps into the power of an idea that is gaining momentum across the country, namely the desire for a sense of refuge, comfort and simplicity," said Angelillo. "Our magazine will celebrate those sensibilities. We believe Cottage Living is in sync with how America really lives and represents the kind of lifestyle that people truly want."

"Cottage Living is for people who prefer comfort over formality, and simplicity over grand style," said Vice President-Editor Eleanor Griffin. "Our magazine will be the authority for this style of living. We'll showcase beautiful, livable cottages -- large and small, old and new -- across the country. We also will feature practical decorating and entertaining ideas throughout each issue that will give our readers confidence and a sense of accomplishment."

As editorial director for corporate magazine development, Griffin spent more than a year guiding the creative team that developed the Cottage Living concept and prototype. She spent nine years as executive editor for Southern Living, a regional lifestyle and entertaining magazine and 11th largest monthly consumer magazine.

Southern Progress Corporation publishes Southern Living, Cooking Light, Health, Coastal Living, Southern Accents, Progressive Farmer and Sunset magazines, and books through Oxmoor House, Leisure Arts, and Sunset Books. It also operates a direct- selling division, Southern Living At Home. Southern Progress is a Birmingham- based subsidiary of Time Inc.
