IGN Launches GameStats.com

IGN Entertainment, which runs the IGN.com gaming site, has launched GameStats.com, a consumer website focused on providing daily popularity and review statistics for more than 23,000 games, both released and unreleased. GameStats.com offers information and media for games spanning more than 80 different platforms, including descriptions, release dates, cheats, walkthroughs, screenshots, movies and company data.

GameStats.com tracks review scores from major online and print publications from around the world and adds in reader opinion to generate a final GameStats.com Score (GSS). GameStats.com also compiles data from wishlist and collection list activity, email requests, message board activity, article, walkthrough, and cheat code pageviews into a number between 0 and 100, to generate the Game Popularity Metric (GPM). This daily changing number shows how popular each game is at that exact point in time in terms of expressed buzz, desire to play the game, awareness, and post-release activity. The site also offers an automated newsletter system that sends readers links to new content from around the web by email.

"GameStats.com is a necessity for anyone looking for straight and objective views on any videogame," said Peer Schneider, Network Director of IGN.com. "By offering daily statistics based on activity and opinion, GameStats.com is not only an invaluable tool to aid gamers in making purchasing decisions, but can also help game publishers determine the strength of their own brands."

According to GameStats.com the current most popular games are:
  1. Ninja Gaiden - Xbox (Tecmo)
  2. Halo 2 - Xbox (Microsoft)
  3. Metal Gear Solid: The Twin Snakes - GameCube (Konami)
  4. Gran Turismo 4 - PS2 (SCEA)
  5. Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell: Pandora Tomorrow - Xbox (Ubisoft)
  6. Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater - PS2 (Konami)
  7. Final Fantasy XII - PS2 (Square-Enix)
  8. Kingdom Hearts II - PS2 (Square-Enix)
  9. Fable - Xbox (Microsoft)
  10. Final Fantasy: Crystal Chronicles - GameCube (Nintendo)
