Abebooks.com Launches Spanish Books Section

Posted on March 5, 2004

Abebooks, an online marketplace for used, rare, and out-of-print books, has launched Libros en Espanol, a new area on Abebooks.com dedicated to Spanish-language books and authors. With Libros en Espanol, Abebooks aims to make it easy to find and buy -- or list and sell -- books of interest to Hispanic and Latino readers and collectors, in Spanish and in English.

Hannes Blum, CEO of Abebooks, said, "We created an area for the growing community of people who read and collect these books. It's our invitation to Hispanic and Latino communities in North America and around the world to adopt Abebooks as their 'online home' for Spanish books."

By working with book sellers and collectors in Puerto Rico, Argentina, Brazil, Spain, Ecuador, Mexico, the United States and Canada who already list their books on Abebooks.com, Abebooks created a section that provides access to a selection of books by Latino, Hispanic and Spanish authors, as well as books that focus on Hispanic history, biography, language, culture and studies. These include new, used, rare, and out of print books, as well as maps, prints, magazines and comics in English and Spanish. Libros en Espanol at Abebooks.com/Espanol currently lists 200,000 books from the Abebooks database of 50 million.

To launch the new page Abebooks invites readers to visit Libros en Espanol and share the name of a favorite Spanish-language book or author. Those who do are entered in a draw for a collectible, Spanish-language copy of One Hundred Years of Solitude valued at $500. They will also receive a thank you gift from Abebooks.

Abebooks is an online marketplace for used, rare, and out-of-print books with over 50 million books listed by over 12,000 booksellers. Abebooks is a global company with sites dedicated to book buyers in North America (Abebooks.com), France (Abebooks.fr), Germany (Abebooks.de), and the UK (Abebooks.co.uk). These domestic sites serve specific countries while making unique book inventories available to all.
