Posted on June 4, 2004

Wireless industry expert Andrew M. Seybold has announced the creation of a new monthly online and email publication for the third-generation wireless (3G) world that he will produce in association with 3GToday.com, an Internet information resource for 3G technology. Titled 3G Today, the email newsletter will cover trends and developments in 3G technology and deployments, present interviews with 3G operators and vendors, and update readers on global 3G statistics. The inaugural issue of 3G Today will be distributed this week.

Currently, Seybold reports, 82 wireless operators worldwide have deployed commercial 3G services in 40 countries, with 51 manufacturers offering 485 different 3G wireless devices to the market. There are more than 107 million reported 3G subscribers across the globe.

"3G technologies are growing and expanding at an astounding pace and this newsletter aims to keep readers plugged into how changes will affect the wireless landscape and their participation in it," said Seybold. "I expect the remainder of 2004 to be pivotal for 3G as the capabilities of handsets and devices continue to improve and as developments in CDMA2000 1xEV-DO and HSDPA advance network capacities."

The inaugural issue of 3G Today includes an article by Seybold introducing the publication and its mission; an article about the CDMA2000 deployment of Brazilian operator, VIVO, a wireless provider run jointly by Telefonica Moviles and Portugal Telecom; a Vendor Spotlight Q&A with Nortel Networks; and a statistical snapshot of current wireless industry conditions.

3Gtoday.com highlights commercial 3G wireless products and services around the world, as defined by the International Telecommunications Union (ITU). Specifically, it highlights commercial WCDMA- and CDMA2000-based offerings. The site is maintained by QUALCOMM Incorporated.

Andrew Seybold heads the Andrew Seybold Group, LLC, a consulting firm specializing in the connected mobility space, where mobile computing and advanced communications technology meet. He is also president of Andrew Seybold's Outlook 4Mobility, a parent company that produces an electronic weekly commentary as well as a tutorial called the Wireless Data University, which is held in conjunction with the Cellular Telecommunications & Internet Association (CTIA) show. He is also a partner in a newly formed company called The Wireless Experience, which provides sales training for companies in the industry.
