New Milwaukee Lifestyle Publication Launches

MKE is a new free, weekly publication and website providing lifestyle and entertainment information for Milwaukee area residents. The tabloid-style publication will be available at a variety of outlets throughout the five-county metropolitan Milwaukee area.

MKE is focused on the local entertainment and lifestyle interests of metro-Milwaukee area residents, who are looking to plan their weekends, connect with friends, find jobs or check out a new restaurant. Each Thursday, 60,000 free editions will be distributed to a variety of locations, including restaurants, coffee shops, bars and grocery stores throughout southeast Wisconsin. The publication will include regular features on entertainment and food, home, money and shopping, as well as people and travel.

In the launch edition, MKE talks to Ashanti Hamilton, Milwaukee's youngest alderman, and interviews young political activists about the presidential election. Readers will find tips on Halloween costumes, and a male staff member writes about an emerging trend -- male Brazilian waxing -- from first-hand experience.

"MKE is a fresh resource, written by young people for young people," said Diane Bacha, MKE general manager and editor. "It will connect with people in and around Milwaukee who want to be informed, entertained and connected. It will also offer resources to help folks out with some of life's day-to-day details."

Bacha, is a 10-year veteran of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel. Managing editor Joe Vince was most recently the arts and entertainment editor at the South Bend Tribune. Sonya Jongsma Knauss, assistant editor, was former editor-in-chief and co-founder of Milwaukee-based Riverwest Currents. Kathy Bryja, design editor, most recently worked at The State in Columbia, South Carolina.
