Genre Magazine, Window Media and Unite Media Join Forces

Genre Magazine announced that it is joining forces in a strategic alliance with Window Media and Unite Media, owners of six weekly publications and websites, to create a publishing company exclusively targeting the gay and lesbian market. The combined readership will exceed 1.5 million gay and lesbian readers.

"Our publications, along with our web presence, deliver more readers on a regular basis than any other GLBT-oriented media company, giving us the edge when it comes to helping advertisers target the nation's increasingly visible gay and lesbian consumers."

The publications include Genre, a resource for gay men; the nation's largest lesbian and gay weekly, the Washington Blade; the South's largest lesbian and gay weekly, Southern Voice; the fastest growing lesbian and gay weekly in Florida, the South Florida Express Gay News; the largest gay-owned weekly in New York, the New York Blade; an entertainment guide, David Atlanta; and the 30-year old Houston Voice. Working together in print and online, the publications draw more than 400,000 readers and visitors a week, delivering breaking news, commentary and information along with social, political, entertainment and religious resources geared to the lesbian and gay community.

"With Window Media's existing readership base, we can now deliver more than 1.5 million gay and lesbian readers to advertisers every month, nearly three times more than our closest competitor," said Genre Publisher Michele Chicoine. Joining Chicoine as co-publisher will be Window's national director of sales, Steven Guerrini.
