Posted on November 29, 2004

Obesity Management, a new medical journal, has been launched by Mary Ann Liebert, Inc. Available in print and online, Obesity Management provides physicians, nurses, and other healthcare professionals with management options, medical advances, and preventive strategies to help stem the growing obesity epidemic, which affects more than 64 percent of adults and 16 percent of children in the United States alone.

"The imperative of obesity management is crucial," said Mary Ann Liebert, president and CEO of Mary Ann Liebert, Inc. "The overweight person is at great risk for many diseases including heart, diabetes, and arthritis, which not only poses major health problems, but also negatively impacts on the escalating cost of health care."

Obesity Management delivers information and tools that can be used by physicians, nurses, dietitians, and other healthcare professionals who deal with overweight and obese patients. Each issue includes: patient assessment; nutrition therapy and exercise; pharmacologic, surgical, and behavioral approaches to long-term weight loss and maintenance; counseling and patient communications; prevention and treatment strategies for physiological and psychological health agencies; patient education tools and support materials.

Editor-in-Chief, James O. Hill, Ph.D., an expert on obesity, is Director of the Center for Human Nutrition at the University of Colorado Health Sciences Center, and Holly Wyatt, M.D., Senior Editor, is Assistant Professor in the Department of Medicine, Division of Endocrinology, Metabolism, and Diabetes. Obesity Management is the official journal of C.O.R.E. (Centers for Obesity Research and Education), in collaboration with the American Association of Diabetes Educators, American College of Sports Medicine, American Obesity Association, and the American Dietetic Association.
