Borders Announces 2004 Original Voices Nominees

Borders Books & Music has announced the nominees for the 2004 Original Voices Awards. The eighth annual awards include books in the fiction, nonfiction, intermediate/young adult and children's categories. Winners in the four categories will each be awarded a $5,000 prize from the company.

"The Original Voices program helps us share our passion for books with our customers and highlight for them some of the most innovative and ambitious works in the world of literature throughout the year," said Mike Spinozzi, executive vice president and chief marketing officer of Borders Group. "The finalists for the 2004 Original Voices Awards represent what our booksellers and home office employees found most compelling this year. We look forward to discussing these titles in the coming months and announcing the winners after the holidays."

Finalists for the awards are chosen by both corporate and store employees. A committee of corporate staff members representing each of the four categories will read each finalist and choose the winners, which will be announced in January, 2005.

Throughout the year, Borders' Original Voices program features the works of more than 200 contemporary authors/illustrators from around the world in the categories of fiction, non-fiction, young adult and children's picture books. The monthly program highlights innovative and ambitious new books from new and emerging talents, as well as works that represent a new direction for established authors.
