GeezerJock Magazine to Cover Senior Athletics

Friday, January 14, 2005

GeezerJock Media LLC announced that it is launching GeezerJock magazine, a Masters sports and fitness publication that will cover the broad spectrum of serious senior athletics for people 40-and-over. The quarterly magazine also has a companion website at geezerjock.com.

GeezerJock Media was founded to provide serious coverage of the burgeoning world of Masters athletics, which includes a host of sports ranging from track and field to swimming and from basketball to baseball. This segment of athletics is expected to boom as the U.S. population ages. In 2000, there were 120 million Americans 40-plus. By 2020, there will be more than 160 million Americans 40-plus, according to the U.S. Census Bureau.

"Our magazine isn't covering shuffleboard; we're covering people who are still grabbing surfboards even though they're 60 or 70 or older," said Bill Ferguson, GeezerJock's VP-sales. "The people who've seen this magazine love it. Through word of mouth alone, we've already generated more than 7,000 sign-ups on our website."

GeezerJock presented a special preview issue in October, which featured coverage of Masters basketball (including a 60-year-old man who can still dunk) and an interview with former NFL star and current Masters sprinter Billy "White Shoes" Johnson. The official debut issue in March is slated to include a feature on Men's Senior Baseball League; a look at a Masters track and field doping scandal in Germany and a profile on several woman who, without the benefit of Title IX, have discovered their athletic ability in their later years.

Based in Chicago, GeezerJock Media LLC publishes GeezerJock magazine and operates geezerjock.com. Their goal is to cover the good, the bad, and the ugly of serious Masters and senior athletics, ranging from track and field and swimming to baseball and basketball.
