MechMuse Launches Free Audio Magazine

MechMuse Ltd. has launched an online magazine called the MechMuse Audio Magazine Free Edition. The first two issues of the publication include stories from New York Times Best Selling Authors David Farland and Kevin J. Anderson. MechMuse Audio Magazine publishes serialized novels, short stories, columns and interviews all in audio format. Each MechMuse Free Edition issue includes between 12 and 15 hours of audio content compressed in MP3 and AAC formats. MechMuse also offers graphical layouts featuring artwork.

Editor Miles Romney talked about the resurrection of audio thanks to podcasts in a statement. "The popularity of streaming radio shows and podcasts further emphasizes the strength of this resurrection of the audio format. Podcasts have brought the power of audio broadcast to the average Joe, and it's been great fun. The next step is to combine this technology with content from best-selling authors, produced to the standards of mainstream audiobooks. That's what we do at MechMuse."

Greenstone Media Launches Women's Talk Radio Network

Greenstone Media, a media and radio network founded by Gloria Steinem, Jane Fonda and others, has launched an all-women talk radio network. Reuters reports that the network hopes to provide an alternative to what is currently offered on talk radio.
Steinem said the network, which is run by women, aims to provide an alternative to current radio talk, which she describes as "very argumentative, quite hostile, and very much male-dominated." This network "has a different spirit. It has more community. It's more about information, about humor, about respect for different points of view and not constant arguing," Steinem told Reuters in an interview. But Greenstone also hopes to attract male listeners. "We do have male voices on the network. It's much better to have a mixture of voices," said Susan Ness, chief executive officer of Greenstone, which got its name from a children's book by Alice Walker, author of "The Color Purple".
Some of the current shows include Radio Ritas, Lisa Birnbach, Rolonda and Women Aloud. The shows can be listened to on the website.
