Posted on January 7, 1998

Congressional Quarterly Inc., the Washington-based provider of news and information on Congress, politics and public policy, has purchased Campaigns & Elections magazine, Robert W. Merry, CQ president and publisher, announced.

Founded 18 years ago to serve the growing community of political candidates, campaign managers and electoral consultants, Campaigns & Elections has been run the past five years by editor and publisher Ronald A. Faucheux, who also was the principal owner. Faucheux will stay on as editor-in-chief of the magazine. Merry will be publisher. In addition to the magazine, CQ will own and operate Campaign Insider newsletter, C&E seminars and conferences, and two political directories.

Campaigns & Elections magazine, a trade publication for people directly involved in political campaigns, is published monthly, with a paid circulation of nearly 13,000. Campaign Insider, a weekly newsletter, is targeted at the burgeoning industry of campaign consultants, operatives and vendors.

Congressional Quarterly, founded in 1945 as part of the Times Publishing Co. of St. Petersburg, Fla., publishes print publications, online products under its Washington Alert banner, and a full line of reference, directory and academic books. It also produces public-policy seminars and conferences.
