Talon News Shuts Down
Talon News has temporarily shut down. A notice on the website reads,
"In order to better serve those readers across the country who enjoy
Talon News content and look forward to receiving it each day, we feel
compelled to reevaluate operations in order to provide the highest
quality, most professional product possible."
The sudden closing follows recent news that Talon News repeatedly
plagiarized material from Fox News, The New York Times and Reuters.
Talon News has been in the news ever since bloggers discovered
that Talon's conservative "reporter" Jeff Gannon was using a fake name
when he lobbed softballs at President Bush during White House Press
Conferences. Gannon's real name is James Guckert and nude photographs
of Gannon have been found on websites offering military escort services.
MediaCynic.com has more on the ongoing Gannon/Guckert story.

Kids: First Amendment Rights Go Too Far
A survey has found that many high school students are ignorant or
indifferent to the rights granted to them by the First Amendment,
including concepts of free speech. MSNBC reported that, "when
told of the exact text of the First
Amendment, more than one in three high school students said it goes
'too far' in the rights it guarantees. Only half of the students said
newspapers should be allowed to publish freely without government
approval of stories."
