Posted on October 16, 2000

Discovery.com, the Internet destination from Discovery Communications, Inc. and Away.com, an online destination for adventure travel, has announced a strategic partnership to expand Discovery.com's Travel category. Away.com will create a turnkey solution to make available its adventure and experiential trips and content to Discovery.com's online community. Discovery.com will also take an equity stake in Away.com and will earn a share of revenues generated from the co-branded site.

Together, Discovery.com and Away.com will develop a co-branded site featuring Away.com's content and its searchable database of experiential trips from over 1,000 tour operators worldwide. Travelers will be able to book adventures from around the world such as an African Safari, wine-tasting classes in Italy, bicycle touring in Ireland, treks following Darwin's footsteps in the Galapagos, or thousands of other trips. Discovery.com will also provide on-air promotion across its Discovery Networks.

``Our Network programming inspires people to want to pack their bags and get out to experience their world,'' said Michela English, President and COO of Discovery.com. ``Expanding our Travel category on Discovery.com to include the ability to research and book great experiential trips is a natural evolution of our strategy to be the ultimate relevant resource on the Web and to deliver what users are looking for when inspired by our Networks. We are thrilled to partner with Away.com, a company which has demonstrated its capability to be a dominant player in the adventure travel space. We look forward to offering our visitors its unique travel offerings and quality customer service to make their travel dreams come true.''
