Gannett Redesigns Military Websites

Posted on June 13, 2001

The Military Times Media Group, consisting of Army Times, Navy Times, Air Force Times and Marine Corps Times, has relaunched its websites. The new web presence is focused on four military service-specific websites; ArmyTimes.com, AirForceTimes.com, NavyTimes.com and MarineCorpsTimes.com which will continue to provide the latest branch news but will be retooled with a new look and original exclusive online reporting.

Focusing on daily news first, the websites will provide visitors with free access to articles relating to career, lifestyle and family. This news will complement or supplement the newsweekly print product. Service members will also be able to find the career information they need for their branch of service. Health coverage is also provided including special reports on military health issues to Tricare benefits and general well-being. Also included is a special Guard and Reserve section which contains an overview of the six reserve components, as well as career and job growth information.

Army Times, Navy Times, Air Force Times and Marine Corps Times newsweekly subscribers will receive complete access to the premium areas of their site as an additional benefit to their subscription. The premium areas include full access to exclusive news and archives, tax assistance, Tricare help, and features such as calculators, databases and other interactive resources found only online.

``The integration of our newspapers and websites is an enormous benefit to our Military Times readers,'' said Elaine Howard, Publisher of Military Times Media Group. ``The print newsweeklies provide in-depth news coverage every week. Look to the online partner to provide breaking daily news coverage on the latest events and updates on developing stories.''

Defense News has also been redesigned. With the consolidation of the defense industry and government making changes in their defense priorities, Defense News also is changing. The redesign includes a new contemporary design, better graphics and more visuals as well as improvements in navigation. New departmental features will include ``Marketplace'', which will offer insight and analysis about corporate strategies and how defense companies perform in the equity markets. ``Industry Digest'' will report on the goods and services sold in the defense market. More in-depth coverage will be given to Asia, the Middle East, NATO, US Congress, defense information technology, simulation and training, plus electronic warfare. Also, a complete integration between Defense News and DefenseNews.com will allow for a complimentary mix of daily breaking news and weekly news analysis and investigative reporting.

The Military Times Media Group is a subsidiary of Gannett Co., Inc. Defense News is published by Army Times Publishing Company, which is also a subsidiary of Gannett Co., Inc. Gannett is an international news and information company that publishes 98 daily newspapers in the USA, including USA Today. The company also owns in excess of 300 non-daily publications in the USA.
