Posted on August 18, 1999

MarketWatch.com has hired Susan McGinnis as a broadcast correspondent and veteran media and investments writer Jon Friedman to cover the New York City media world. McGinnis will provide daily market updates for the new CBS Early Show, beginning in November. In addition to his regular column, Friedman will contribute webcasts to the site.

"We believe that Susan and Jon's vast experience and expertise, combined with our existing talent, will help firmly solidify MarketWatch.com's positon as a leading Web-based resource for breaking business and financial news," said editor-in-chief Thom Calandra, who also appears on TV and radio for MarketWatch.com. "Susan, joining Betsy Karetnick, Stacey Tisdale and Bambi Francisco, gives us a broadcast team that makes and saves real folks real money every day. Susan knows as much or more about markets and economies as any financial journalist I know."

Prior to joining CBS MarketWatch.com, McGinnis was an anchor/reporter for Bloomberg TV, focusing her coverage on the financial industry since 1997. While at Bloomberg, she covered a variety of stories including breaking business news, live coverage of the financial markets, live interviews with CEO's, market analysts and other experts, and consumer/personal finance reports.

For nearly 20 years, Mr. Friedman has held a variety of positions as a journalist. From 1993 to 1999, he was a reporter for Bloomberg News covering Wall Street, sports business and mutual funds among other subjects. Friedman kicked off Bloomberg's flagship weekly mutual funds column, Flow of Funds, in the early 1990s.
