NBCi's Snap Launches LiveDirectory

Posted on December 30, 1999

NBC Internet, Inc.'s Snap service has unveiled Snap LiveDirectory, a new search and directory product designed to streamline submissions of website listings to Snap's directory and to rank search results by site popularity. The Snap LiveDirectory currently includes more than 350,000 new site listings.

Submissions to the Snap LiveDirectory supplement Snap's existing hand-built directory managed by a team of editors. Sites submitted to Snap LiveDirectory are automatically filtered for link validation and duplication and formatting issues. Following filtration and approval, Snap notifies the submitting publisher within 24 hours that the site is listed.

"Near instantaneous, unmoderated and free submission, coupled with popularity ranking make Snap LiveDirectory a living database of great content," said Paul Wood, Senior Product Manager, Search and Directory of Snap. "LiveDirectory allows all Web publishers to benefit from being listed with one of the fastest-growing portals on the Internet and continues to grow the wealth of information and services we can deliver to our users."

NBC Internet, Inc. (NBCi), a branded global integrated media company, commenced operations in November 1999. NBCi was created through the combination of Snap, XOOM.com, NBC.com, NBC Interactive Neighborhood, AccessHollywood.com, VideoSeeker and a 10 percent equity stake in CNBC.com. NBCi is headquartered in San Francisco and has offices in New York City, Los Angeles, Chicago and Paris, France.
