Primedia Launches Two Boating Publications

Posted on April 8, 2005

Primedia Inc. has announced the launch of two publications serving the boating market, BoatWorks and Voyaging. BoatWorks serves the hands-on sailor, with editorial coverage for the maintenance and restoration of fiberglass boats. Voyaging is a publication covering the powerboat cruising experience and lifestyle. Primedia's Marine Group now includes Sail, Power & Motoryacht, the Sailboat Buyer's Guide, Voyaging, and BoatWorks.

"Our market test last year allows us to launch these brands with confidence in the demand from readers and the acceptance by advertisers for both of these publications," said Primedia President and CEO, Kelly Conlin. "Using our expertise in the markets we serve to identify new information needs is a key element of our growth strategy."

Primedia says BoatWorks covers a wide range of topics and tips related to do-it-yourself boat care -- from structural repair to paint and varnish to book and DVD reviews -- giving readers a publication written in an easy-to-follow format that includes "step-by-step" photographs and illustrations to demonstrate each phase of the project. BoatWorks will publish four times a year with a distribution of 75,000. The boatworksmagazine.com website will supplement the magazine.

Primedia says Voyaging offers timely insight on a range of related topics and tips, from profiles on travel destinations, options for chartering, and the latest accessories and electronics. Published quarterly, the publication will receive promotional support from sister publication Power & Motoryacht.

"When it comes to defining the marine lifestyle, Voyaging is in a league all its own. No other magazine is completely focused on the powerboat cruising experience, and no other magazine comes close to Voyaging in giving powerboaters ideas about where to go and what to do on the water," said Kim Kavin, editor of Voyaging. "The magazine's entry into the market stands as a prime example of how we can create new products by tapping the tremendous equity of our established and respected brands."
