Scribner To Publish Book By Mariane Pearl

Posted on April 12, 2002

Susan Moldow, Executive Vice President and Publisher of Scribner, an imprint of Simon & Schuster, announced that they will publish Mariane Pearl's memoir about her husband, Daniel Pearl, the Wall Street Journal reporter who was kidnapped and murdered in Pakistan early this year. Mariane Pearl, a respected member of the international media, is an award-winning documentary film director who produced and hosted a daily radio show for Radio France International, and has written for Le Nouvel Observateur and Telerama. She and her husband were committed to international reporting, and traveled extensively together, filing stories from Europe, the Middle East and Southeast Asia. Daniel Pearl was working on a story about Islamic militants at the time of his abduction.

Scribner Editor-in-Chief Nan Graham, who acquired the book, said, "Mariane Pearl's courage, calm and astonishing good sense were evident at every stage of this tragedy. She will tell the fiercely dramatic story of the five week search for her husband, and she will explain why people like Pearl persist in their commitment to gather information that helps us understand the world."

Publication of Mariane Pearl's first book is expected early in 2003. She is represented by Kristine Dahl at ICM, who sold world rights to Scribner.
