The Verge Launches Gadget Blog Called Circuit Breaker

Posted on April 25, 2016

The Verge has launched a new gadget blog called Circuit Breaker. The blog boasts that it is the "world's best" on its Facebook page. The Verge is owned by Vox Media.

Launching gadget blogs was one of the hottest trends when commercial blogging first start emerging over ten years ago. Major gadget blogs like Engadget and Gizmodo emerged as leaders in the category. Like many blogs they have expanded their coverage categories over the years. The Verge editor Nilay Patel tells the New York Times that Circuit Breaker will be a "classic gadget blog." The Times says this means it will publish "news and gossip about technology products at a frenetic pace."

Circuit Breaker currently has a different look on its website than it does on its Facebook page. The Facebook page has a circuit-like blue and pink logo not seen on the homepage. The blog does not have its own domain but lives on theverge.com site.

It probably won't be the site or even the Facebook page where most people find content from the new gadget blog. The Times story says most people will get the content in their Facebook news feeds. The company will be using Facebook's Instant Articles. They plan to broadcast live video on Facebook.

The Verge has this to say about its new blog: "Paul Miller has returned to The Verge to launch Circuit Breaker, the world's best gadget blog? Here's a little secret: he's actually been here for awhile already, writing as Al Plumlier (an anagram). Well-placed sources tell me that Nilay Patel will have more to say about Circuit Breaker soon."
